When and How to Use Four-Wheel Drive

Four-wheel drive can be great when you have to drive in risky conditions, but you still need to know how and when to use it. Here's a quick guide that will come in handy.

The Four-High Setting

The four-high or 4H setting is for level roads that are only slightly slick due to rain or ice. It will allow you to drive at normal speeds without losing too much traction.

The Four-Low Setting

The four-low or 4L setting is for really rough terrain such as deep sand, deep snow, mud, rocks, and driving off-road. When you use this setting, remember to keep your speeds at under 40 miles per hour so you don't ruin your drivetrain or find yourself going too fast to stop suddenly.

If you have any additional questions about how to use your vehicle's four-wheel drive or to make an appointment for repairs and maintenance, contact Loving Honda today. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.
